This author’s account of where he went and what he did strays very far from the tone and style of Austin’s story. The story was engaging, and the additional characters that Aidan created to populate Darcy’s life are interesting. All else I would easily have passed by! I would advise potential readers to read the first and third of the series and make up your own story for what happened in the month between.
Darcy are apart; after he goes off to London with Bingley and before they meet up again at Rosings in the Spring. What this book does best is illustrate what Darcy stood to lose, in terms of his own standing in society and the values he had been taught to respect, by a marriage with Elizabeth, contrasted by what he would gain from it that, ultimately, leads to a very satisfying end in the latter part of Pride and Prejudice.
There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Having decided that that is the cure to getting over Elizabeth. I took a Philosophy course, as well, which unfortunately did not go as well as the Gothic class yes, my coffee table exists, I don’t question it because I was the one who went to IKEA and bought it! Jul 11, Mina Lobo rated it really liked it. I won’t go into ridiculous amounts of detail here, but everything I said in my review of An Assembly Such as This goes for this book too.
Duty and Desire
Until his run in with Elizabeth and the misdirected proposal, he has no reason to change his personality. It is very clear that they have a great respect for each other. And then there’s the second book of the trilogy View all 8 comments. Darcy tries to resolve his conflicting emotions about Elizabeth, and attempts to seek out a more suitable wife for his station in life, but discovers, in the process, that there is no match for Elizabeth. Anyway, I can only recommend this book if it amuses you to read silly melodrama.
Duty and Desirethe second book in the trilogy, covers the “silent time” of Austen’s novel, revealing Darcy’s private struggle to overcome his attraction to Elizabeth while fulfilling his roles as landlord, master, brother, and friend. This book takes place after Darcy has gotten Bingley to leave Netherfield and go to London. Feb 05, Melissa rated it it was amazing.
Besides writing and operating Wytherngate Press, she is also the direcotr of Liberty Lake Municipal Library in eastern Washington, a short distance from her home in Idaho. His valet Fletcher is also a great character. Unlike other reviewers, I did enjoy the exchanges between Darcy and his valet, who was quite an entertaining character, but I agree that their relationship seemed unrealistic, contrived, and out of place.
Duty and Desire (Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman #2) by Pamela Aidan
As much as I loved the first book in the series, this one was a big disappointment. The middle book and probally my favorite. This one in particular debee likely difficult as it covers the time the two protagonists are apart and thus, the chemistry is lost.
Christmas at Pemberly, meeting Miss Georgiana Darcy, and of course getting to see Darcy in his element working with his staff and tenants and going about the business akdan he was raised to do. So lets stop wasting our time on debating it’s existence Darcy’s relationship with Georgiana is further fleshed out, as are the characters of Fletcher, his invaluable valet, and Dy Brougham, dever closest friend hint: The second instalment on this trilogy enters before Christmas, after the Netherfield party has left.
I think this is the author’s way of showing Darcy that titled and people of high rank can be just as bad or in my opinion worse then those of Meryton.
In truth the second half of this book was very exciting with the mystery and other events that happened. Trivia About Duty and Desire A rather dull second installment. Another reviewer noted this was a bit of Gothic farce, in the way of Northanger Paela – this did not turn me off as it did that reader.
The story takes him to the estate of a friend and a party of acquaintances and strangers.
